The Commencement of the Epiphone Era
Epiphone, currently one of the leading manufacturers of guitars is famous for its unique and stylish designs that generate high quality musical notes. Initially made by a company started in 1837 by A Stathopoulo, the instruments produced that time had the name of A Stathopoulo. The founder was the son of a merchant who thought differently and designed several musical instruments like violins, lutes and another old Greek musical instrument.
By the year 1917 the company started getting the name of the House of Stathopoulo which was changed by the son of the founder; Epimanonodas Stathopoulo. However he just reached an age of 22 years when he had completed his two year management of the company after his father’s death.
By the end of the world one, the new founder considered the losses in the company that were due to the lost fame of the best seller i.e. the mandolin. Therefore he decided to produce banjos as a replacement. This new product was quite famous for the time and he really counted on his excellent workforce for its success.
The official change in the company name occurred in the year 1924. The founder made the change by adding his nickname to it and it was now named as epiphone.
The first guitars made by the Epiphone were the recorder series in the year 1928. However this model was not a huge success due to the lesser volume and smaller sizes. The other editions that came later on under this brand were quite successful which included the arch top ones introduced in 1931.
The replacement made from the banjos to the guitars was at the time when the guitars were gaining immense popularity and this made Epiphone one of the leading guitar companies.
